Why the usual comparisons don’t solve your problem
Almost all information about ReVanced and YouTube Premium focuses on «blocking ads vs. paying.» But whoever looks for this comparison usually has a specific problem: the patched app stopped loading videos, downloads fail halfway through, or the Premium payment doesn’t go through. Here we start from those failures, not from the sales brochure.
Typical ReVanced failures nobody warns you about
The playback error after updating YouTube
ReVanced is not a standalone app: it patches the official APK. When Google changes the internal client (something that happens every few weeks), the old patches stop working and the «content unavailable» message or the infinite loading loop appears. The solution is not to reinstall blindly, but to regenerate the APK with the YouTube version that the project’s documentation marks as compatible. If you use a newer version of the base APK, the patches may apply but break playback.
Downloads that get stuck at 0%
The download patch depends on the client version and on the storage having the correct permissions on Android 13 or higher. A common case: the download starts and gets canceled because the manager doesn’t have access to the chosen folder after a system update. Changing the download path to internal storage resolves most of these failures.
Sign-in rejected
Google blocks account access on patched clients under certain circumstances. According to the project’s own documentation, the recommended route is to use microG or the corresponding authentication module, and even then some accounts fail to sign in. This is not a failure you can fully «fix»: it’s a structural limitation of the method.
Paying doesn’t eliminate problems. Playback errors from corrupted cache, charges rejected by the issuing bank, and offline download restrictions (device limit, 30-day expiration without a connection) affect paying users just the same. The difference is that here you have official support: if something breaks, there’s a complaints channel. With ReVanced, support is the community, and the usual answer is «wait for the next patch.»
Practical comparison based on what matters to you
- Stability: Premium wins. ReVanced requires manual maintenance every time the client changes.
- Downloads: both allow downloading, but ReVanced saves local files that you manage; Premium limits offline playback to the app and it expires.
- Privacy: ReVanced removes advertising tracking, but it doesn’t give you full control over the data the base client sends.
- Real cost: ReVanced is free in money, not in time. If you value your time, the calculation changes.
What I can’t guarantee you
There’s no way to ensure that a specific patch will work tomorrow. Nor can I claim that ReVanced is safe across all repositories: only APKs generated from the project’s official sources have verification. Any build downloaded from a third-party site is an unknown. And if your device is an iPhone or a television, ReVanced is not an option: there’s no version for iOS or for most smart TVs, which limits the comparison to Android.
How to decide without falling into the common mistake
The most repeated mistake is installing ReVanced once and forgetting that patches need to be updated. If you don’t want that maintenance, Premium is the predictable route. If you accept that time cost and use Android, ReVanced covers 90% of cases, with the sign-in and stability caveats already described. Neither option is perfect; the choice depends on which failure you tolerate better.
