ReVanced is not an app you just download and install: it is a patcher that modifies the official YouTube APK. That difference explains 90% of the failures you see in forums. If the video won’t load, if the app crashes on opening, if the ad patch stops working after an update, there is almost always a problem in the chain base APK → patch version → signature.
Why the installation fails (and it’s not the tutorial’s fault)
The most common error is INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE. It occurs when you try to install a new ReVanced over the original YouTube or over a previous build signed with a different key. Android does not allow overwriting an app with a different signature. The real solution: uninstall the system YouTube (or disable it if it comes preinstalled) before installing the patched version. On Xiaomi or Samsung phones with YouTube in the system partition, uninstalling from Settings is not enough; you have to use ADB with pm uninstall –user 0 com.google.android.youtube or apply the «Mount» patch from ReVanced Manager.
Second classic error: downloading the APK from a mirror site instead of APKMirror or the repository itself. The recommended versions change: ReVanced Manager tells you which YouTube version is compatible with the current patches. Installing the latest YouTube version from the Play Store and then patching it usually breaks the sponsor and thumbnail patches.
The video won’t load or stays black
If the app opens but videos don’t play, check three points:
- MicroG missing or outdated: ReVanced needs MicroG to sign in and for playback. If it’s missing, the app only half works. Install it from the official ReVanced repository, not from third-party APKs.
- Outdated «return YouTube dislike» patch: when YouTube changes its internal API, that patch fails and sometimes drags the player down with it. Disable it in Manager and recompile.
- Incomplete alternative client: if you patched YouTube Music and YouTube with the same build, check that they don’t share MicroG with incompatible versions.
One specific case that keeps coming up: after updating ReVanced Manager to a new version, the downloaded patches still point to an old YouTube version. The symptom is that the ad patch works but the «playback speed» or «sponsorblock» patch doesn’t appear in settings. The solution is to force the patch update inside Manager before recompiling.
Downloading ReVanced without falling for fake APKs
ReVanced does not publish ready-made APKs. Any website offering «YouTube ReVanced APK no ads 2026» is an unofficial mirror and usually includes modifications. The correct route is ReVanced Manager from its GitHub repository, plus the YouTube base APK from APKMirror (the version indicated by Manager itself). If you download an already patched APK, you cannot verify which patches it includes or update them without reinstalling.
Important limitation: ReVanced does not work on all devices. On Android 14+ with some manufacturer skins, the installer fails when applying the signature. On iOS it does not exist. On Android TV the process is different and is not supported by Manager.
What to expect and what not to
According to the official ReVanced documentation, patches are updated when YouTube changes its client, but there is no guarantee that ad blocking will be permanent. A patch may stop working for days until the team updates it. If you depend on the app for professional use or for content that is monetized, keep in mind that you are using an unauthorized modification and that it can break without warning. For occasional use, the experience is stable; for production, it is not a reliable solution.
