Electricity bills from some guy named José, messages from the bank of a lady in Valencia. It’s not magic or a conspiracy. Gmail merges addresses if they have dots, it’s a quirk of its own. If someone writes jose.luis@gmail.com but the real one is joseluis@gmail.com, everything comes to you . The mistake is the sender’s, but the mess is yours.
And watch out, this doesn’t mean someone has broken into your account. But it can happen that you’re, without knowing it, receiving the Gmail of another person because they themselves set it up wrong. Some people get overconfident and set up automatic forwarding to your address without realizing it . So don’t panic, but check every now and then. If you see a lot of strange emails, there may be a lost soul out there using your email by accident.
The most practical thing to avoid these scares is to have everything well secured in Gmail on my phone. The phone app is amazing because it arrives instantly. But of course, if you have the session open and leave your phone lying around, anyone can read it. That’s why it’s key to log out or at least set up a lock. Although, to be honest, almost nobody does it. We leave everything open for convenience.

If you don’t log out, the next person who uses that computer will have your private life exposed. And then you say “I’ve been hacked.” No, buddy, it was you.
Sometimes you need to create a new Gmail because the old one embarrasses you. That one you made when you were 15 with a ridiculous address. Well, it seems Google is now letting you change the address without losing everything, like a mask . Ideal for starting from scratch without deleting your photos from ten years ago. Because we all have that email we don’t even want to look at.
But if what you’re looking for is to investigate or run a business, you might need to access someone else’s Gmail legally. They call it delegation . You give your assistant or your partner permission to log in and manage things. Of course, this is done from the computer, on the web. Don’t even think about giving your password. Delegation is cool because you can send emails as if you were them, but without handing over the master key.
Notifications have also improved. Now on Android you can mark an email as read without opening the app, directly from the alert . A breakthrough for lazy people (like me). That way you don’t accumulate 500 unread on Gmail and pretend you’re on top of your inbox. Little gestures that make life easier, honestly.
