It’s happened to you, right? You’re there, calm, looking at your phone, and you see the WhatsApp icon with a number. A “1”. You go in, you check EVERYTHING, you open group by group, you read up to the last message from the neighbor who sends dog reels, and when you leave… it’s still there. The damn 1. Or worse, a 3, a 7. As if the app were messing with you.
It drove me crazy for a week. There was no way.

I have a Samsung, and they’re very particular about these things. I went into the settings, removed the battery restrictions, gave it notification permissions even to notify me if it felt like it. But the number was still there. Until I found the trick.

The one that worked for me was one that isn’t recommended much because it’s a hassle. I had to uninstall the app, but checking the “save data” box when it asks you during uninstall. That way you don’t lose the chats, but you break that hook it had with the system. I reinstalled it, opened it, and the number had flown away. Peace of mind.
