Until recently, you needed to know how to use Photoshop to fix it. But today there are super simple apps that do the work for you, and many are free.
In this post I’m sharing the ones that have worked best for me, especially if you use an iPhone (although there are also options for Android).
The best apps for iPhone that I’ve tested
As an iPhone user, I’ve tested several applications to remove unwanted objects. These are my favorites:
- Snapseed (by Google) – It has a tool called “Healing” that is magical. You just paint over what you want to erase and that’s it. The best part is that it keeps the details of the background.
- TouchRetouch – This one is specific for this job. It’s perfect for removing cables from landscape photos or people who appear where they shouldn’t.
- Adobe Photoshop Express – It has a fairly decent object removal feature, although some tools are paid.
They’re all easy to use. Seriously, if I could learn, anyone can.
3 free apps that actually work
If you don’t want to spend money, these free options do a decent job:
✅ Retouch – Object Removal
My favorite for erasing simple things. You just circle the object with your finger and it disappears. Ideal for travel photos.
✅ YouCam Perfect
In addition to beauty retouches (which I don’t use much), its tool for removing objects is surprisingly good.
✅ PhotoRoom
I discovered it recently and I love it for product photos. It removes backgrounds and annoying objects with just one tap.
They’re all available on both iOS and Android, so there’s no excuse.
My personal experience using these tools
Last week I had a family photo at the beach that I loved, but there was a tourist with a hat right behind us. I used TouchRetouch and in less than a minute the man disappeared without a trace.
Another time, for my LinkedIn profile, I used Snapseed to clean up a cable that was visible in the background. It looked so natural that no one notices the photo was edited.
