1. Open CMD as administrator 🧑‍💻

Do this:

  • Press the Windows key.
  • Type cmd.
  • Right-click on “Command Prompt” and click Run as administrator.

(If you don’t do it as admin, some commands won’t work).

2. Magic command: sfc /scannow

This command checks and repairs system files that are damaged. Literally, as if you were doing an “internal cleanup” of Windows.

Type this:

sfc /scannow

And press Enter. Wait. It may take several minutes. If it finds errors, it will repair them on its own.

What might come up:

  • ✅ “Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations”: you’re fine.
  • 🔧 “Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them”: excellent.
  • ❌ “Windows could not perform the requested operation”: keep reading…

3. Second level: DISM

If sfc couldn’t repair everything, we’ll use this tool:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

This connects to Microsoft’s servers to repair deeper issues. Same thing, let it run without interrupting it.

4. Repeat sfc /scannow

After DISM, it’s good to run this again:

sfc /scannow

Now it should finish without errors.

5. Check the disk with CHKDSK

In case the problem comes from the hard drive:

chkdsk C: /f /r

It will tell you if it needs to restart. Say yes. On the next boot it will run the check.

⚠️ It can take quite a while if you have a lot stored, but it’s worth it.

What if it still doesn’t work well?

Sometimes it’s better to do a deeper repair or restore from a previous point. But these commands save a lot of PCs.
